Romeo Lavia is among several promising Manchester City youngsters waiting for their chance against Swindon.
Having appeared in the Carabao Cup earlier in the season, the Belgium U19 starlet has been summoned for FA Cup duty as Covid-hit City take on League Two opponents at the County Ground.
Kevin de Bruyne and Bernardo Silva were among those to start.
Lavia was joined on the City bench by homegrown Conrad Egan-Riley and Norwegian forward Oscar Bobb.
Unlike the latter, Lavia and Egan-Riley have already tasted first-team football and will be eager for another chance to continue their development tonight. Here is our profile on the Belgian midfielder;
Name: Romeo Lavia
DOB: January 6 2004 (18)
Position: Defensive midfielder
Described on the City website as a tenacious, ball-winning midfielder, supporters got to see those qualities for the first time when Lavia made his debut against Wycombe Wanderers in September. It really was a night to remember, not only for the Belgian but several other youngsters, too.
He’s only been at the Etihad Stadium for 18 months, but the signs are promising. Lavia has appeared in four UEFA Youth League matches this season and, from 12 further outings in Premier League 2, the 5ft 11in holding midfielder has provided two direct goal contributions.
Speaking about the player, Anderlecht coach and former City captain Vincent Kompany said: “Of course, I would have preferred to see Romeo [Lavia] in purple first and then in Manchester City’s blue, but I’m very happy for him. City need guys with this kind of profile.”
