Missing man, 59, found dead in Bury flat – police are investigating

A missing man has been found dead in a flat in Bury.

Police were called to an address on Ormrod Street in the Pimhole area of the town on Sunday evening.

Officers broke into the property after concerns were raised about the missing man, aged 59.

They sadly found him dead at the scene, but the cause of death remains unknown at this time.

A spokesman for GMP did not confirm the identity of the man found at the address.

Police were pictured outside the flat as late as Wednesday, January 5, as enquiries continued.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing a police car parked on the street, near to the junction with Fountain Street, from Sunday through to Wednesday evening.

Waseem Abbas, who lives in Ormrod Street, said: “The police have been on this side of the road for three days in a row, from morning until night.

“I’m not sure what has happened, but it surprised that they were there for so long.

“Every time I went to work, they were still there. They left last night.”

Another woman said police officers had told her that ‘someone had died’.

Pictures taken from the scene on Thursday morning (January 6) showed a ground floor flat with a boarded up window.

Shards of broken glass could also be seen on a patch of grass nearby.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “Shortly before 5pm on Sunday 2 January 2022, police gained entry to an address on Ormrod Street, Bury, due to concern for a missing man.

“Sadly, a 59-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Enquiries are ongoing to determine the cause of his death.”
