Cristiano Ronaldo among three Manchester United players back vs Arsenal but Paul Pogba likely out for season

Cristiano Ronaldo is available to play for Manchester United against Arsenal on Saturday but Paul Pogba is out for four weeks and has possibly played for the club for the last time.

Ronaldo missed the 4-0 defeat at Liverpool on Tuesday night as he was on compassionate leave after the death of his baby boy, one of twins. Ronaldo’s partner Georgina Rodriguez, delivered a baby girl safely.

The 37-year-old completed a full training session at United’s Carrington training complex on Wednesday and Ronaldo trained again on Thursday.

Pogba is out of contract in June and his calf injury is set to keep him out for four weeks, according to interim manager Ralf Rangnick, who originally indicated he would miss the next two games against Arsenal on Saturday and Chelsea on Thursday.

Raphael Varane is expected to return to the United side after muscular problems prevented him from playing in the last three games against Liverpool, Norwich and Everton. Seven of United’s Premier League defeats this season have come when Varane has been absent through injury.

Scott McTominay was named on the bench at Anfield despite not training due to a foot injury but also participated in training sessions on Wednesday and Thursday.

Edinson Cavani (calf) and Luke Shaw (ankle) are still sidelined and both could miss the remaining five games.

Rangnick said: “Scott McTominay will be back and fit to play, he has beein training with us and he will train today, he will be available for the game, the same is true with Raphael Varane. Cristiano Ronaldo is available again, he’s been training with us.

“All of the others are still injured plus Paul Pogba. Paul, as it seems, with the scan we did the day before yesterday, it is very likely he will not play until the end of the season again.

“The doctor told me it will take four weeks minimum for him to recover and obviously the last game is the end of May. I don’t think it is very likely he will be able to play again [this season].”
