Conservatives defend monarchy while believing Voice gives ‘too much privilege’

Sky News host Chris Kenny says “so-called conservatives” defend the idea of power inheritance while believing the Voice to Parliament will give Indigenous people “way too much privilege” by offering non-binding advice on laws that affect them.

Mr Kenny said it is “inconsistent” and “paradoxical”.

“Their argument against the Voice is that it assigns special rights on the basis of race,” he said.

“Yet they stridently defend the institution of the monarchy, the supremacy of the Royal Family, an authority, a right, that is divorced from any democratic process, that involves a privilege and a power handed down by birthright.

“A birthright beholden not just to one race of people, nor just to one nationality, nor just one religion, but to one family.”
